My First Day
January 5th, 2015
Today was my first day as a production intern at Delaware Today Magazine. I was introduced to everyone around the office and received my very own office space, phone number, and email. I also found out that I am being mentioned in the mast head of the next issue of the magazine as the new production intern. I am so excited to get started with this company.
I was given the assignment of the Delaware Bride supplement. I got to choose a photo for the cover of the supplement and started working on the sponsorship ads. Of course I was overwhelmed with all of the new material I was learning at once, but I can't wait to take in everything I can.

Today was a lot busier than last. It was Delaware's first snow day which made me late to my first 9-5 job, Luckily, everyone was in the same boat. I learned Magazine Manager today, the main hub for all of Delaware Today and Mainline Today's advertisements. I was assigned to three ads that needed revisions for the next issue. I had to send them out to the clients as the first proof for approval. I also finalized the cover photo for the Delaware Bride supplement with my Creative Director, Ingrid Lynch. The rest of the week will be busy with advertisement revisions and finalizations for the walk through on Thursday. On Friday I am going out with the photography crew for Delaware Bride to get everything ready for the photo shoot that I get to go on this coming Monday.

Today I started off picking up jewelry with the creative director, GiGi. We went to three different jewelers in Delaware and the Main Line area to pick out pieces that would compliment the "colored gowns" theme of the Spring photo shoot for Delaware Bride magazine that we are working on. It was extremely intense picking out over $200,000 worth of jewelry from these jewelers to loan to us to get free advertising. After that, we went to check out the location of the photo shoot. It is Sweetwater Farms Bed & Breakfast/Grace Winery in Glenn Mills, PA. The set is gorgeous with tons of different rooms to choose from. Then, at the end of the day I went to pick out gowns with the assistant creative director, Stephanie Senner. I was surprised how much influence I had on choosing the gowns and jewelry considering I had only been with the company for five days, but I was more than excited to sift through all these gorgeous pieces. In the end, I had pulled at least 8 of the 21 dresses that were chosen and most of the jewelry was my choice as well. It was such an exciting experience.
Photo shoot day!
January 12th, 2015
Today was the big day! Started off with terrible weather and running gowns back and forth between buildings, cars, other buildings, and models. As soon as we got to the location we immediately unzipped all the dresses and paired jewelry while the four models were getting hair and makeup done. The photographer walked around and checked the location out for the best lighting and locations. Hair and makeup took a little longer than anticipated, and the weather was making it difficult to go between the location of the shots and the hair and makeup area. But, we started around 1:00. I assisted the models into the gowns and clipped them in where necessary. I also guarded the jewelry for part of the time because the insurance we had on them requires us to stay with it. We shot first in the barn of the winery with all of the ball gown dresses. After those six gowns were photographed, we moved in to the bed and breakfast location. We had a designated area for the models to get ready upstairs. Hair was touched up and changed according to each gown. I was responsible for choosing jewelry and bouquets to pair up with the models according to what dress they were wearing. I also had to make decisions with what model looks best with or without a veil, or with or without a bouquet. We did not finish the shoot until 5:30pm. We then went through the chaos of packing everything up and getting the jewelry to the right place. In the end, I got to take home two bouquets and eight floral crowns. Today was such an enjoyable learning experience. I think I finally figured out what I want to do as a career. Today opened my eyes to this new opportunity and I can't wait to work on something like this again. It's exactly what I want to do. Best. Day. Ever.

I sat in on my first staff meeting today. It was an hour long overview. Each department went over how their side went. I then went on a cake photo shoot for the Delaware/MainLine Bride Magazine editorial. The studio was located on Market, Street in Wilmington. The bakery's had their cakes delivered directly to the photo shoot so their were no pick ups or deliveries on our end. To my surprise, none of the cakes were real. The photo shoot went quickly, and we were back at the office within two hours.
I then worked on my first work order for Delaware Business Times. I had to resize and image for an advertisement that was going out.
January 14th, 2015
Today I had my first three Ads approved. I also went to lunch with my mom since her work is located down the street from me. I was also asked if I would be able to work part time here while one of the graphic designers goes on maternity leave! I graciously accepted and I am excited to see what they have in store for me.
January 15, 2015
Today we went back to Luigi's studio on Market Street to shoot for the Fashion editorial on "70's Style" for the upcoming issue.
January 19th, 2015
Today is was assigned to story layouts. I learned how to take stories from the editors and place them into the magazine for the upcoming issue. Everything is done through drop box which makes obtaining stories very easy. It was pretty simple, just a lot of copy and pasting. Then the story is saved and sent to our creative director for approval. I had the responsibility of getting Main Line Today's stories into place.
I worked on the Best of Main Line Sponsorship Kit for 2015 to be sent out. Corrections were sent back and forth through PDF's. I also worked on Delaware Bride Ads. Creating them, resizing, and getting proofs out to clients through our Account Executives. Proof sheets are filled out by myself with an ad attached for the client's approval. I also worked on the 2015 Sell Sheets for our Marketing Coordinator.
January 20th, 2015
I resized the Delaware Business Times' cover to be hung up in the conference room with the rest of the covers that the team is proud of.
I had a couple Ad revisions to do, which is fixing what the client doesn't like about the ad that I produced. I also got to do my first ad from scratch, which the client approved right away. It was for Delaware Bride magazine and was an Ad for a dj.
January 22nd, 2015
Today I was assigned my first feature for Delaware Today Magazine. I get to design the Camp Guide Feature for the upcoming issue. I was told it was one full spread, four half horizontals, and three jumps. I am to fit a full story and a camp chart with all the camps offered for the upcoming summer.
January 23rd, 2015
Happy Friday! Today I helped out with a surprise baby shower for my co-worker. I was also asked by my creative director if I could come and work part time while she goes on maternity leave for eight weeks starting the day she goes into labor! Which I'm pretty excited about.
January 26th-30th, 2015
This week has been complete craziness with Ad design. All of the account executives and their clients waited til the last minute to send in their ad requests. We were all scrambling to get those done. I was contacting clients to get their ads approved before we go to print with Delaware Bride. I was working on my camp feature as well as plugging stories into Main Line.
February 2nd-4th, 2015
I got my camp feature approved! I sent it to the creative director for changes and additions.
I also started working on April ads for Delaware Today. It is going to be a very slow week. I continue with designing ads as they trickle in for April, tweaking my camp guide feature for the magazine, and changing dates on sell sheets for the account executives to start sending out to clients.
I had to reach out to one of the summer camps to get a larger picture for the magazine so their camp photo could be used in my spread. Other than that, my camp guide is good to go!
February 5th, 2015
My co-workers in production took me out to lunch at capers and lemons! All ten of us had a great time, and we talked about my future plans and where I see myself. When we returned to work, I got the finalization's done for my spread and started printing out the book for the editor to make final changes with the pages. All 3 books were printed, Delaware Today, Main Line Today, and Delaware Bride's Spring and Summer edition. I also printed out covers to hang in the office.
